Reihan (Bartaa) Checkpoint allows transit only to vehicles and pedestrians holding transit permits appropriate to the place. The checkpoint is located on the separation fence, east of East Bartaa, and is supposed to supply continuation of the "fabric of life" to the Palestinian residents living in the "Seam Zone," who have been physically cut off from the West Bank by the that fence. Since 16 May 2007, it has been maintained by a civilian security company subcontracting to the Defense Ministry.
Functioning on the site is a large and sophisticated terminal, which includes biometric facilities for identification of the palm of the hand, and small examination rooms to which men and women are taken by random selection. Agricultural produce and other goods may be transferred through here from the West Bank to the Seam Zone enclave in limited quantities, by a group of regular drivers and in prior coordination with the DCO and the army.
Since the checkpoint passed into civilian hands, the Mevo Reihan CP (near Umriha village) has been used as a checking point for Palestinians on their way to the Reihan checkpoint.

Close description

09:00 - 10:00 Shaked-Tura checkpoint
Very few had gone through. We were told that at Daher-el-Malec there is still no electricity. The Palestinian authority has already a plan to connect the village to an electric plant but the civilian authority does approve it.
They receive electricity from a generator for two hours a day.

10:10 - 12:00 Rihan-Barta'a checkpoint

An atmosphere of despair at the checkpoint. A young woman with a tiny baby, and a one-and-a-half-year old female baby, with parcels, had arrived from the West Bank, accompanied by her parents. The parents help her carry the girl and the parcels. The young woman needs to cross into the SeamLine zone, to her home and her husband in East Barta'a. The parents have no entrance permit into the SeamLine zone. We turned to the inspector at the booth in front of the terminal, asking to allow the parents or ourselves to help the woman or perhaps one of the female workers at the terminal could assist the woman. After some debating the parents were allowed inside the inspection area, where they met an acquaintant from Barta'a who would escort the young woman until she exits the terminal.

Getting out through the turnsyle with two infants and luggage was not easy. Of course no one had opened the door by the side of the turnstyle
. Their inspection took about half an hour. We helped her through the sleeve and later drove her home to East Barta'a. While waiting for her at the entrance to the terminal, we saw six detainees (illegal aliens) sitting on a bench. They were taken inside perhaps to avoid us seeing them.
