Since 2001 we have observed dozens of army checkpoints on paved and unpaved roads in the West Bank, the Jordan Valley and along the Separation Fence; Civil Administration offices which grant permits to Palestinians; and military courts trying Palestinian prisoners. We stand at the checkpoints observing the behavior of soldiers and Palestinians without interfering, intervening only when soldiers behave offensively to Palestinians. About 10 vehicles stand in front of the passage.
Hawara:
Cars at the entrance to and exit from Nablus are checked at random. A minibus going into Nablus is stopped. After his ID papers are examined he is allowed to proceed. A soldier and an officer asked us to move away from the area. After a short debate we moved away slightly to a place from where we could still observe the goings on at the checkpoint.
