מאז 2001 אנו משקיפות מדי יום בעשרות מחסומי צה"ל הנמצאים בתוך הגדה, בבקעת הירדן, על גדר ההפרדה, בכבישים ראשיים ובדרכי עפר צדדיות; במשרדי המינהל האזרחי (מת"קים) שם מונפקים לפלסטינים אישורים שונים; בבתי משפט צבאיים בדיונים של עצירים פלסטינים. הצוות שלנו שוהה במחסום ככל הנדרש ועוקב אחרי התנהלות החיילים והפלסטינים, ללא הפרעה. לעיתים, לנוכח יחס בוטה וקשה אל הפלסטינים, יש ואנו מנסות להתערב באמצעות פנייה ישירה אל החיילים או בטלפון למפקדיהם. הדוחות מהתצפיות מתפרסמים באתר זה בעברית ובאנגלית.

בחורף, במחסום קלנדיה, הטמפרטורה צונחת עם ערב מתחת לזו שמראה הטרמומטר והחשיכה מוקדמת ועמוקה כבר בשעות של טרם לילה.
"המצב שלו קריטי, מחר יש לו ניתוח בלב", אמרו אנשי הצוות הרפואי שחיכו במגרש החנייה הפנימי להעברתו של אמבולנס מהשטחים כדי לקחת תינוק המובל בו לביה"ח מוקאסד שבמזרח ירושלים, שם ינסו להציל את חייו.
הם אנשים לא צעירים אנשי הצוות ובעלי ניסיון של שנים בעבודתם. על גודל הסכנה לחיי התינוק ניתן היה לעמוד ממידת דאגתם וחרדותיהם: התינוק, בן ארבעה חדשים שלבו פגוע ושמצבו עלול להתדרדר לכדי סכ
נת חיים עם כל רגע חולף של המתנה המעכבת את הגעתו לביה"ח - בו יהיה נתון להשגחה מקצועית מיומנת.
אבל הנהלים לפיהם מתבצע מעברם של אמבולנסים מצד אחד של המחסום לעברו האחר, שיגרת נוהל גב-אל-גב וההקפדה היתרה בטור ולא במקביל של תעודות, אישורים, זיהוי הנלווים על תיקיהם וחפציהם - גרמו שרק אחרי כ-40 דקות מרגע הגעת העולל ואמו למקום, אישרו לאמבולנס של הסהר האדום לצאת לדרכו עם ה"מטען" היקר שחייו תלויים על בלימה.
נהג האמבולנס אף ניסה לרכך לב קצין משטרה שעמד בסמוך תוך ריקודי "מה יפית". היו אלו מאמצי שווא. השוטר נותר ערל לב והסביר שאינו נמנה על הנהלת המחסום, הוא שם בעניין אחר. ואמנם, הוא וחבריו על רכביהם, כמו קבוצת שוטרי מג"ב, התאמצו (והצליחו) ליצור פרובוקציה שתגרום לזריקת אבן בידי אחד מילדי מחנה הפליטים - או כמו שאמר לנו אחד הפלסטינים:"גם אם הילדים לא זורקים אבנים, הם (השוטרים) עושים שהם (הילדים) כן".
החיילת המעכבת, זו שהקפידה לבדוק כל נייר ולפשפש ארוכות בתיקה של אם התינוק בטרם אפשרה לה לחבור לילדה ולשבת לצדו, פנתה אלינו תוך יצירת משואה בין העוול שגורם המחסום לתינוק החולה לבין זריקת האבנים בידי ילדי המחנה:" זה שהם זורקים עלינו אבנים ומסכנים אותנו, זה בסדר?"
- אולי, יש לקוות, פנייתה אלינו, לא אנחנו יזמנו שיחה עמה, הייתה משום שזעה נימה בלבה שלה?
ולמה כל הזמן מתנגנת בי שורה משיר של להקת "הבילויים" האומרת: "בעיר רמאללה יש תינוק שמת לפני שהוא נולד"... ?
בעברו האחר של המחסום, בצד הפלסטיני, פגשנו את נ. מתרוצץ חסר מנוחה בין סככת ההמתנה למגרש החנייה כשאמו הזקנה נגררת בעקבותיו. נ. דווקא חייב לנוח בהוראת הרופאים: לפני 12 יום עבר ניתוח לב בשכם והיום שוחרר מביה"ח להחלמה בביתו - בעזה. כשחצו האם, בנה ונהג המונית ששכרו את המחסום, החליטו הבודקים שהחבילות שעמם בכמות המעידה על כוונתם לסחור בתכולה, ולקחו עליהן חזקה.
נ., גבר בשנות ה-40 לחייו, שחשף לעינינו את חזהו החבוש לאורכו כדי לשכנע באמיתות דבריו, לא התכוון לותר על השייך לו, מה גם שבתוך אחת החבילות טמון היה ה-CD שכלל צילומי בית החזה והוראות ביה"ח לרופאי עזה באשר להמשך טיפול.
היינו גשר טלפוני בין האיש לרשויות: שיחות רבות מאתנו אליהם, מעטות מהם אלינו, אח"כ נעתרו נציגי השלטונות לבקשתנו ודברו גם עם בעל העניין, שלבד מהחשש לאיבוד רכושו חשש שלא יספיק להגיע למחסום ארז בזמן הנקוב, ואם לא די היה בדאגותיו וחולשתו, הוסיפה לעצבנותו אמו הזקנה (בגילי?) שהתיישבה על הארץ וקוננה תוך מלמולים שאת תכנם לא הבנו כשבנה גוער בה ומבקש שתשב בשקט.
לאחר שעה התקבלה הצעת פשרה ממטה הצבא: שהאיש ואמו ישובו לביתם, הם מצדם הבטיחו שלמחרת היום יפקידו את החבילות בידי הנהג.
ואמנם, למחרת, ביום שני בבקר, קיבל לידיו הנהג השכיר את הצרורות, לא לפני ששילם מס (למה ומדוע?) ונ. החזיר לו את הסכום וגם שילם עבור נסיעה נוספת ממחסום קלנדיה למחסום ארז. תמונות התינוק נשלחו בנפרד.
