Jalama, CP 250, AM
Jalama, CP 250 Sunday, 15/8/2004 Observers: Sarit R., Matti S., Netta G. (reporting), a guest Jalama, 5:50. There is no passage of neither workers, nor merchants, and there is no un-loading of back-to-back trucks. An encirclement was imposed on Jenin following the terror attack between the checkpoints Qalandiya and Ar-Ram near Jerusalem, last week.A few workers appear at the checkpoint despite the encirclement, but they are not allowed in. The only workers who are allowed into Israel are those employed at the building site of the Seam Line facilities. Checkpoint 250, 6:25. There was a bus waiting at the checkpoint with families of prisoners. The soldiers opened the gate at 6:30, the passengers got out, the papers of the drivers were checked as well as the license of the bus. After 20 minutes the bus was permitted to continue to the Jalama checkpoint at which time another bus with prisoners’ families has arrived. 7:15. We returned to the Jalama checkpoint. More workers arrived at the gate but they also weren’t allowed through, due to the encirclement. Captain A. suggested that they would call the DCO in the afternoon to find out if the encirclement would be removed tomorrow. A. told us that in the meantime construction workers working on the Seam Line passed through (They work at the site of the security fence and the Jalama crossing point.)All along the passage of prisoners’ relatives, from the first bus, was progressing. Some of them went through the electronic gate while others, including men, were checked, with a manual electronic detector by a female soldier. We suggested that men should be examined by male soldiers and A. said he would look into that. The belongings of the passengers were checked separately in a special police car in which there is a packages conveyer. At 8:00, the passage of the families was over and they continued into Israel in an Israeli bus, escorted by the Red Cross vehicle to the Shata prison. The second bus with prisoners’ families hasn’t arrived yet, and there was no Israeli bus waiting for them. The Red Cross person waiting for them, to escort them to Ramallah prison, said all was organized and coordinated. 8:10. We left the checkpoint.

In the course of 2009 the terminal was opened for the passage of Israeli Arabic citizens into the West Bank. Since October 2009 they may pass in their cars.
