Abu-Dis, Shekh SaedThuesday, 22.6.2006, AMNeta E., Tamar A., Mili M. (reporting)Shekh Saed – We arrived at Shekh Saed later to-day (at about 07:45) after visiting Ma’avar Rachel CP where we met R.’s team who will reoprt on their shift. When we got to Shekh Saed we found at the CP May (the teacher) and two social workers from Jerusalem who were sent by Neve Shalom to see to it that the Studetns who have to take the matriculations will be able to. There were very few people at the CP and no farmwomen with their heavy laods on their heads. The commander of the CP insisted that we can not stand at the CP, not can we pass it. One telephone from Neta to P. and were we allowed to pass, although to “save face”, we had to show our MW cards, he had to be satisfied with our IDs. Nobody was allowed to pass, everybody has to go through the Zeitim CP. Altogehter there were very few people at the CP, one man passed by and said to us: “A dog has better life with you than we have here”. (He certainly got the message that the authorities want the people to get.) Abu-Dis – One woman at the lower Pishpash with a swoollen cheek, obviously suffering from intense toothache. She is not allowed to pass. The Commander, BP, do’es not allow us to speak with the soldier, but gives in to Neta’s argument that we are allowed to speak wth soldiers. A very long phone conversation with P. (again) to allow the woman to pass and go to the dentist in the village. The controversy is whether this is a humanitarian case, since toothache is not life threatening. The final decision is that she has to go to the upper Pishpash, but a few minutes later another BP comes (apparently to resolve the issue) approaches the woman, very politely talks with her and allows her to go to the upper pishpash through the road thus saving her the long cetoru of goingo back through Abu-Dis.
