Shaked, Anin and Rihan checkpoints, Monday 26.6.06 a.m.Observers: Nava and Dvora07:55 – Shaked checkpoint Upon our arrival a military Jeep was leaving the area . The gate leading to the checkpoint is chains-locked.There are some workers at the Tobacco field by the cp.08:05 – AaninAbout 20 people are waiting for the gate to open including us. An hour later we call the DCO to find out how come no one comes to open the gate. The clerk on phone says that she’ll take care of that. at 09:15 a border police Jeep passes by and the gate is still closed, the soldiers do tell us though that apparently the gate would not open today. We called the Brigade – there is no answer.09:30 – An officer at the DCO reiterates that the Aanin gate would not open today and there is no point for the farmers to wait, he scolds us for interfering the clerk’s work.A number of people wanted to get to the Rihan checkpoint and we gave them a lift in our car.09:45 – Rihan checkpointOnce again we are not allowed to go to the Palestinian car park area with the excuse that we can not be protected over there. Merchants were told that at 10:30 vegetables can not go in, only sheep and eggs, “This is a Brigade decision”.Owners of cars loaded with vegetables are bewildered, puzzled where does this order comes from.It is quite obvious that the team of soldiers are new here, they are up tight and are not familiar with regulations.11:30 – We left.
