Shaked, Aanin, Rihan, Monday, 3/7/06, MorningObservers: Vivian, Nava (reporting)Guest: S.07:50 Shaked CP: Soldiers are waiting, but there are no people.08:10 Aanin: About 30 people are waiting in a field near the CP gate. Most of them are children of primary school age. All of those waiting left on Thursday to work in the olive groves and now they want to go back to their village on the West Bank. On the other side of the gate, 51 people are waiting to go across to work on their land. Only at 09:30 did the soldiers come to open the gate, but then only in the direction of the seamzone, and only for those who wanted to go out to work. Those who wanted to go back home had to wait until 15:30, the time for opening the gate in the other direction – to the West Bank! This is what they have to go through after they have worked and slept in the field since Thursday. Not exactly a picnic. At the DCO they confirmed that this is the procedure and it is impossible to change it.09:40 Rihan CP. In the Palestinian parking lot opposite the yellow gate that leads to the passage in the terminal, about 30 people or more are crowded together. The woman soldier in the hut is not ready to tell me why [they have to wait] and puts her hands over her ears. The CP commander explains to us that there is a problem with the electricity. I explain to him that about 40 people are waiting, among them old people and children; and he promises to take care of the matter. And imagine this – they begin to let the people through in groups of five, and the whole queue is finished in a quarter of an hour. 10:50 – The “route” for transporting fruits and vegetables is working. Apparently the “electricity came back”. A week ago we encountered the same story about electricity. We left at that time.[translation: Devorah K.]
