Ar-Ram, Anata, Thursday, 29.6.06 AMObservers: Uri K, Millie M (reporting)Ar-Ram: on the way we see three Border Policemen “covering” an Added Value Tax official who, accompanied by a policeman, impounded the car of a Beit Hanina resident because of a seeming debt of 20,000 shekels. Further down the road we meet another team, and the policeman explains to us that they do this because the residents of Beit Hanina don’t have clear addresses, so they can’t be reached at home. That’s also an answer…At the checkpoint itself the atmosphere is tranquil. Some 15 detainees, some of them (workers on their way to Maale Adumim) have been waiting more than an hour, and a man wanting to get to Mukassad (says he is chronically ill, but does not have any specific paperwork) says he has been here half an hour.Anata: a line of cars, waiting time 15 minutes. A man complains about the rude attitude of the soldiers and the way in which they demand, brutally with pushing that people pass down the lane and not on the road. We witness one incident where a Palestinian fights for his self respect and demands of a soldier that he speaks instead of shoving. The commander intervenes, wisely, and saves the face of both hawks. We do not go to Qalandiya because of the events and the feeling of tension.
