Tayasir and Hamra, Wednesday 5.7.06 p.m.Observers: Naomi V., Rachel H. Osnat D. (reporting)13:35 -15:25Tyasir – 13:35Eastwards, four cars are waiting ,three of which arrived when we had. Westwards – five.Upon our arrival we saw soldiers passing through the five cars which came from the west. The process takes about half an hour. After that the four cars that came from the east go through. In the meantime two more cars had arrived, again inspection time takes half an hour while the last cars in line, according to our timing had waited about 45 minutes. In one of the vehicles, a bus, there are 52 workers who came as a group from Beit Ha’Arava. The foreman has an organized folder with the names of all workers, who get off the bus stand in lines of three for a count, each identification card is carefully examined against the list in the folder. This tedious process is extremely long. While this is taking place one of the soldiers (dressed in a military praying shall over his uniform) approaches us asking the cause of our visit and why, if we already came over, why didn’t we bring some cold/soft drinks or a bite to eat.He is ‘rewarded’ with a speech given by us and quickly disappears. His peers who are exposed to what we had to say decide to cut short the procedures by quickly returning the papers to the passengers, who in return get back on the bus in a swift manner and leave the area. In this case we felt that our presence really made a different and we were somewhat helpful.14:40 – We left. At that time there was one vehicle on each side of the checkpoint, waiting to be inspected.Hamra – 15:05A very sparse traffic which streams along. We were surprised to be allowed to stand under the shady shake , located opposite the checkpoint, which was empty of people.Soldiers were efficient and courteous.15:25 – There were no vehicles at the checkpoint, and we left
