Abu-Dis
Abu Dis, 0630. Near the
gasoline station was a border police jeep. Some people were
climbing over the wall. Both groups were ignoring each other.
Nobody at the hotel. Many school children, some of them very young,
were climbing over the wall. At 07:00 the little gate was closed. A
long queue of people were pressing themselves against its iron
bars, some of them shouting and arguing. Several border policemen
were around. The female soldier said that the closed gate was meant
“to teach them a lesson”, because one man had not been
respectful to her. He had refused to give her his ID. Shortly after
our arrival the gate was opened. They let people with proper papers
pass, but were checking even the blue IDs if the bearer was young.
A jeep with a commander arrived. He was very quiet and calmed down
the atmosphere.
Sawahre: 8 detainees were sitting under a kind of shade. They said
that they were sitting there for about an hour. Short time after
our arrival they got their IDs back and left.
