Oct-29-2019
| Morning

Ariela, Semadar and I came to assist Idris harvest the olives from his venerable trees, more than 200 years old, gloriously beautiful.  The army provides security.

Today representatives of the Civil Administration visited, together with the Israeli unit broadcasting to the Palestinians in Arabic about their lives under occupation…and various other journalists.

I asked a Civil Administration colonel why Idris received permission to harvest only three days ago, and told him he may harvest for only five days (the army must protect him from Tel Rumeida settlers – that’s apparently the reason).

“Idris will pick every last olive,” replied the Civil Administration officer.

We’ll continue to accompany and assist him to the best of our ability.  Let’s home the promise will be kept.

    • According to Wye Plantation Accords (1997), Hebron is divided in two: H1 is under Palestinian Authority control, H2 is under Israeli control. In Hebron there are 170,000 Palestinian citizens, 60,000 of them in H2. Between the two areas are permanent checkpoints, manned at all hours, preventing Palestinian movement between them and controlling passage of permit holders such as teachers and schoolchildren. Some 800 Jews live in Avraham Avinu Quarter and Tel Rumeida, on Givat HaAvot and in the wholesale market.

      Checkpoints observed in H2:
