This is what the waiting room looked like this morning. There was not a seat to be had. There were easily over 100 people there, both those waiting and those standing outside. Two men stood up immediately as we entered for us to sit.

The waiting room is quiet. One can only imagine if this had been Israelis waiting for an ID. Our friend, the taxi driver, told us that he had already brought people at 7 a.m., and they were still waiting. We were told that there was only one window open, and that it only opened well after 9 o’clock. Why? Because.

Evidently, a soldier came through earlier and gathered the IDs of people, but when we arrived only 10 had received the magnetic card. Then we were told that there was a problem with the internet, and that they would open again after 1 o’clock.

We took the number of our taxi driver and have just spoken to him. He said people waited until 4 o’clock and then went home. We can do nothing to help people, and they still say thank you for coming.

One young man said he had known Sylvia since he was 15 years old and is now in his 40s. He is married to a woman from Beit Safafa, a neighborhood in East Jerusalem. He had a permit to be in Israel, but since the war it has not been renewed and they keep putting him off. He was
