Tarqumiya Sunday morning, 29 Feb 2004 Watchers: Hagit B., Nomi S. (reporting) 05:30: We arrive at the Tarqumiya checkpoint. Israeli cars were already waiting to pick up the workers who were coming through.(The CP is in operation 24 hours, the workers’ permit is from 5 AM to 7 PM). The workers passed through quickly and smoothly with 2 soldiers checking them. Approx. 200 workers passed through while we were there. A few cars were checked also with no undue delay. Construction workers are being allowed to pass today.We left the CP at 06:30, since most of the workers had already passed through. Beit Guvrin, mobile checkpoint:We stopped by to observe. Some of the workers were told to get out of the vehicles and had their IDs checked again. Again, no serious delays.We asked the policemen at this CP why they rechecked the IDs and were told that this was in order to catch workers who infiltrated through the hills around the CP.A normal morning – the anemones and the almond trees are still blooming.
