Soufa CP, Gaza Strip 25/2/2004 Watcher: Yael A., Written by Hagit B. We arrived to the checkpoint Soufa on the border of the Gaza Strip on Wednesday 25th at 6:00pm. We were standing with Israeli employers, and did not identify ourselves as being from Machsom Watch, because we came to observe and gather information on this particular check point. It is a checkpoint which only Palestinians with work permits are allowed to pass through, women and men. The checkpoint opens at 6:00am., and the Palestinians are already gathered there by 5:00am. along with the Israeli employers on the other side of the checkpoint. When Palestinian snipers are in shooting distance of this checkpoint, the checkpoint does not open on military orders. On the day we were there, the snipers were not present and the checkpoint was open. Five hundred workers passed through without any special delays. .
