Observers: Ruthie W.Z, Alix W. (reporting)
Mar-23-2008
| Afternoon

13:09 Habla

The gate was already closed, no sign of the army or anyone waiting
there

13:22 Qalqiliya

There is a long line of vehicles waiting to get out of Qalqiliya, no
vehicles at all on the other side. The soldiers are not checking
most of the vehicles going out, the vehicles slow down, and then are
waved by.

15:27 Anabta

As we arrive there are no vehicles on the side entering Tulkarm,
about 14 coming out, there is a random check of IDs on both sides.
A few cars are pulled over to be checked, the soldiers look in the
vehicles but rather superficially. By 15:35 the waiting vehicles
have all passed.

15:50 Jubara

There is not much traffic, but no one is moving, when we arrive at
the CP and ask for someone to open the gate so we can go to Ar Ras,
one soldier tells us that we can't go, then says that we have to
wait a half an hour, when asked he said "there are activities" "no
key". We pull over and call Tami, after about 5 minutes a soldier
comes over with the key to open the gate for us.

16:11 Ar Ras

As we approach the cement CP in the center, one of the soldiers
calls out to the others, "don't talk to them". We ask him why they
shouldn't talk to us, one soldier rudely in Hebrew while another
soldier says "those are our orders".

The soldiers are pulling over most of the vehicles, but do a quick
check of ID and vehicle interior and then pass them.

16:30 Gate 753

There are 3 youths that are waiting, the soldiers have their ID's,
they say they entered Jubara without the proper papers, and now they
have to wait. What for?? They are being checked.

    • 'Anabta CP

The checkpoint is located south of the village of 'Anabta, at the intersection of Road 60 (leading to Nablus at the entrance to Area A), with Road (57, 557, 5576) facing west towards the Einav settlement and the checkpoint at the exit from the West Bank - Figs checkpoint. Until 2010 we used to watch the intersection and report the long columns created due to a slow inspection of the vehicles in both directions.

    •   The Jabra checkpoint was on Road 557, south of Tulkarm, on the side of the Figs Pass, which is located within the Palestinian Authority (a few kilometers east of the Green Line), and serves as an entry barrier from the territories to Israel. The checkpoint to the village of Jubara, which until 2013 was in the seam area, blocked and surrounded by a fence, was intended for the passage of the family members of the house next to the checkpoint, and also for the MachsomWatch volunteers (with special permission only), on their way to checkpoint 753. on the other side of the village. The soldiers supervising the "fig crossing" also supervised the crossing at this checkpoint, in our shifts we often waited a long time until the key was found and the gate opened. The checkpoint was abolished and became part of the separation fence that was moved west following the High Court.
  • Qalqiliya checkpoint

    • Qalqilya is surrounded on all sides by the separation barrier. The only exit from the city is in the east of the city on the road that leaves the city in an easterly direction. This is where the checkpoint was located. When the checkpoint was active until 2009 our shifts watched long queues of cars being inspected at the only exit from the city to the West Bank. The checkpoint was canceled, but there is a military presence at the entrance to the city.
