‘Anabta, Ar-Ras, Jubara (Kafriat), Tue 1.4.08, Morning
Observers: Noga K., Ruth C. (reporter) Translator: Orna B.
8:40 – 09:30 Anabta
There is a very long queue of vehicles at the entrance to and at the exit from Tulkarm. About 20 vehicles in each direction.
Waiting time is about 10-15 minutes. According to the
Palestinians, the congestion started only in the last hour. The
soldiers at the checkpoint stop the inspection from time to time and
chat to each other, which instantly creates a congestion. Inspections
are at random, but occasionally they are very thorough. A lorry driver
is asked to show the contents of carton boxes, and in order to avoid
having to unload the lorry, he tears up the cartons and shows the
contents. A lorry with an Israeli number plate is inspected and is not
allowed to continue. Any attempt to communicate with the checkpoint
commander fails – he is not interested in us talking to him. Nearer the
time of our departure the queue shortens a little.

09:50 – 10:30 A-ras, Jubara
We had our usual visit to Abu Hatem's and were glad to see that he
is well and even working in the garden. We richly served with assorted
treats.

The checkpoint is located south of the village of 'Anabta, at the intersection of Road 60 (leading to Nablus at the entrance to Area A), with Road (57, 557, 5576) facing west towards the Einav settlement and the checkpoint at the exit from the West Bank - Figs checkpoint. Until 2010 we used to watch the intersection and report the long columns created due to a slow inspection of the vehicles in both directions.

The Jabra checkpoint was on Road 557, south of Tulkarm, on the side of the Figs Pass, which is located within the Palestinian Authority (a few kilometers east of the Green Line), and serves as an entry barrier from the territories to Israel. The checkpoint to the village of Jubara, which until 2013 was in the seam area, blocked and surrounded by a fence, was intended for the passage of the family members of the house next to the checkpoint, and also for the MachsomWatch volunteers (with special permission only), on their way to checkpoint 753. on the other side of the village. The soldiers supervising the "fig crossing" also supervised the crossing at this checkpoint, in our shifts we often waited a long time until the key was found and the gate opened. The checkpoint was abolished and became part of the separation fence that was moved west following the High Court.
