‘Anabta, Qalqiliya, Mon 16.3.09, Afternoon

Observers: Elisheva E., Bil'ha A., Yona A.
Mar-16-2009
| Afternoon

Translation: Galia S.

13:50 – We pass the Figs Gate and go straight to Beit Iba, a day after the closure of that checkpoint was announced. We don't enter Jubara.

Anabta

15:15 – The construction work in the road continue intensively. The tractors are working. Only one lane is open for car traffic and the soldiers direct the traffic allowing cars alternately to enter and leave Tulkarm. The cars pass without being checked. The line of cars that leave the city is short, but at the entrance the line is long and cars stand as far as the junction.

Qalqiliya

16:15 – The road leading into the city is empty. The few cars that enter Qalqiliya pass the checkpoint without inspection.

The checkpoint is located south of the village of 'Anabta, at the intersection of Road 60 (leading to Nablus at the entrance to Area A), with Road (57, 557, 5576) facing west towards the Einav settlement and the checkpoint at the exit from the West Bank - Figs checkpoint. Until 2010 we used to watch the intersection and report the long columns created due to a slow inspection of the vehicles in both directions.

    • Qalqilya is surrounded on all sides by the separation barrier. The only exit from the city is in the east of the city on the road that leaves the city in an easterly direction. This is where the checkpoint was located. When the checkpoint was active until 2009 our shifts watched long queues of cars being inspected at the only exit from the city to the West Bank. The checkpoint was canceled, but there is a military presence at the entrance to the city.
