14:00 pm, Etzion DCL: in the hall three brothers were waiting: the Shabak had summoned them to a 9:00 am meeting. They arrived in time, their IDs were taken and since then they have been waiting. There is no possibility at the DCL or nearby to get food or drink. Only a water tap. We phoned the DCL people and asked them to remind Shabak that the three were waiting. They promised, but it did not help. We continued to phone to whoever we thought might help. We also contacted the spokesman of the Civil Administration, who asked and received all the details: the names of the brothers, their ID numbers, their address. We thought that our approach had some influence because at 16:00 the three brothers were called inside. We were happy, but not for long, because they came out after a few minutes and showed us printed forms summoning them again on August 1st. In other words, they had been forced to wait from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and had lost three days work, in order to get a summons for next week. Again we talked to Civil Administration spokesman, asking him to deal with the matter – to influence Shabak to stop its habit of summoning people, holding them for many hours, and finally sending them off with another summons for a different date. The spokesman, who had all the details, nevertheless asked us to write him a letter with those details.

16:15 pm, Bethlehem – Checkpoint 300: because we had stopped at Etzion DCL, we arrived while masses of workers were already crowding the passages from the pavement up to the entrance. Inside three stations were functioning. One was only serving people coming from Bethlehem. When we entered, a police officer announced that he wasn't talking to me, but he nevertheless added: "You are liars! You lie! You are a liar!" I asked why he said that, and he answered: "Because you write lies. You are a liar! You write lies. You have never written even one true report!" After making his statement, he turned and walked off.

    • Located adjacent to the Separation Wall ("Jerusalem Wrap") at the north entrance to Bethlehem, this checkpoint cuts off Bethlehem and the entire West Bank from East Jerusalem, with all the serious implications for health services, trade, education, work and the fabric of life. The checkpoint is manned by the Border police and private security companies. It is an extensive infrastructure barrier and is designated as a border terminal, open 24 hours a day for foreign tourists. Israeli passport holders are not allowed to pass to Bethlehem, and Palestinian residents are not allowed to enter Jerusalem, except those with entry permits to Israel and East Jerusalem residents. Israeli buses are allowed to travel to Bethlehem only through this checkpoint.
The checkpoint, which demonstrated harsh conditions of crowding and extreme passage delays for years, started employing advanced electronic identification posts and has upgraded its gates' system as of the middle of 2019  - and conditions improved.
Adjacent to the checkpoint, in an enclosure between high walls and another passage, is the historic Rachel's Tomb, which is now embedded within a concrete fortified building. It contains prayer and study complexes for Jews only, as well as a residential complex. updated  November 2019   .
