Bethlehem, Etzion DCL, Nabi Yunis, Mon 13.4.09, Morning
07:00 AM, Bethlehem – Checkpoint 300: one open position, and a line of 30 men. We are told that 200 people are waiting outside. A soldier arrives and opens another position. Few people passing because of Passover and Easter closure. A group of youngsters arrives with a guide. The youngsters don’t have a permit, only a “kushan.” The soldier checks and they pass.
07:30 AM, Hussan: we looked at the underpass from Hussan to el Hader. There is a large sign on the main road. The crossing itself, under the road and for 300 metres in the direction of Hussan on a dirt path, beyond which piles of gravel, excavated earth, etc. No passage for vehicles, only for agile pedestrians. When will they complete the work? The descent from the road, where mostly children walk to school is full of obstacles.
08:00 AM, Etzion DCL: today only humanitarian cases. The policeman said that the DCL will only open next week.
08:15 AM, el Aruv: jeep next to the guard tower. Along the whole road increased military presence.Trying to find out whether there is a policeman on the phone at Beit El. Impossible to find police commander.
09:00 AM, Nabi Yunis: various requests and arrangements.
On the way back we entered the vegetable store after Zur Hadassah crossroad. Owner was not there.

Located adjacent to the Separation Wall ("Jerusalem Wrap") at the north entrance to Bethlehem, this checkpoint cuts off Bethlehem and the entire West Bank from East Jerusalem, with all the serious implications for health services, trade, education, work and the fabric of life. The checkpoint is manned by the Border police and private security companies. It is an extensive infrastructure barrier and is designated as a border terminal, open 24 hours a day for foreign tourists. Israeli passport holders are not allowed to pass to Bethlehem, and Palestinian residents are not allowed to enter Jerusalem, except those with entry permits to Israel and East Jerusalem residents. Israeli buses are allowed to travel to Bethlehem only through this checkpoint. The checkpoint, which demonstrated harsh conditions of crowding and extreme passage delays for years, started employing advanced electronic identification posts and has upgraded its gates' system as of the middle of 2019 - and conditions improved.Adjacent to the checkpoint, in an enclosure between high walls and another passage, is the historic Rachel's Tomb, which is now embedded within a concrete fortified building. It contains prayer and study complexes for Jews only, as well as a residential complex. updated November 2019 .
