Saturday
Almost routine — every Saturday, from morning until afternoon, the settlers rest and apparently do not bother to summon the army to carry out their wishes.
The escort of the sheep at Ein al-Sakut and in Ihmeir (al-Farisiyah) to the harvested fields passed quietly, as did the escort of F.’s cattle at Ein al-Hilweh to the spring. Also in al-Farisiyah there were no harassments.
But the day never passes entirely in peace. At 18:00 we received a call from the shepherds of Ein al-Hilweh, who in the summer stay with their herd in Ibziq, a village near Bardala, where there is grass. They reported that settlers from the nearby outpost attacked them with clubs and weapons. They couldn’t manage to send us a location, but about an hour later they informed us that “only the donkey’s saddle and the sacks” had been stolen. Yet the next day we learned of the full horror: the settlers had killed 8 cows!

In light of this, the shepherds decided to return with their cattle to their permanent encampments at Ein al-Hilweh and see how they would manage.
At night, around 21:30, two settlers’ vehicles drove around the area of the spring at Ein al-Hilweh, and there was concern that they would break into the shepherds’ dwellings. We prepared in advance. But after about an hour they left without doing anything.
The rest of the night passed quietly in all the places where night watches were stationed.

The tense quiet prevails all the time, everywhere. One can never know what the next moment will bring.

    • Jordan Valley The Jordan Valley is the eastern strip of the West Bank. Its area consists of almost a third of the West Bank area. About 10,000 settlers live there, about 65,000 Palestinian residents in the villages and towns. In addition, about 15,000 are scattered in small shepherd communities. These communities are living in severe distress because of two types of harassment: the military declaring some of their living areas, as fire zones, evicting them for long hours from their residence to the scorching heat of the summer and the bitter cold of the winter. The other type is abuse by rioters who cling to the grazing areas of the shepherd communities, and the declared fire areas (without being deported). The many groundwaters in the Jordan Valley belong to Mekorot and are not available to Palestinians living in the Jordan Valley. The Palestinians bring water to their needs in high-cost followers.
