including Anata
Ar-ram, Qalandiya, Sunday, Feb. 20, AM Watchers: Dani M-A, Chana A (reporting), guest: Daphne6:45 Ar-Ram. More than usual BP at the checkpoint, but quiet with few passers, most of them schoolkids. Cars and pedestrians pass without anyone detained.7:00 Qalandiya: The dirt and garbage are having a field-day. More than usual and quite disgusting. A renewed sign of life: many beigel stands and some coffee stands as well. No detainees. We pass through the turnstiles and speak to the taxi drivers who tell us that there were nasty moments on Thursday and Saturday (reported here by watchers). Today is quiet – so far. When we go back and stand in line to have our ID’s checked, we notice that the center of the roof has been torn away (bad weather?) and not repaired. Luckily it was not raining but when it does?Athe top of the stairs back to the taxis, we meet some young men. One of them is bitter and upset. No work and no fiancee. The one he had lived in Wadi Joz and he, with a Hebron address on his ID, could not meet her anywhere. A routine story and a sad one.On the way back we stop at Shoafat-Anata. Here the garbage greets us as usual. The line of cars proceeds at a good pace, no pedestrians at this time (9:00)
Hebron

According to Wye Plantation Accords (1997), Hebron is divided in two: H1 is under Palestinian Authority control, H2 is under Israeli control. In Hebron there are 170,000 Palestinian citizens, 60,000 of them in H2. Between the two areas are permanent checkpoints, manned at all hours, preventing Palestinian movement between them and controlling passage of permit holders such as teachers and schoolchildren. Some 800 Jews live in Avraham Avinu Quarter and Tel Rumeida, on Givat HaAvot and in the wholesale market.
Checkpoints observed in H2:
- Bet Hameriva CP- manned with a pillbox
- Kapisha quarter CP (the northern side of Zion axis) - manned with a pillbox
- The 160 turn CP (the southern side of Zion axis) - manned with a pillbox
- Avraham Avinu quarter - watch station
- The pharmacy CP - checking inside a caravan with a magnometer
- Tarpat (1929) CP - checking inside a caravan with a magnometer
- Tel Rumeida CP - guarding station
- Beit Hadassah CP - guarding station
