Very few people come out of Tulkarm. A new unit mans the facility, which means, as usual, confusion. The first schoolbus arrives, denied entrance to the village. The soldiers make phone calls, all this takes awhile. We phone the DCO [District Coordination Office of the IDF Civilian Administration, that oversees checkpoint passage] a couple of minutes later the bus is allowed to enter. The second bus passes without delay. We decide to go to Beit Iba [See separate report under Nablus] earlier than usual, before the late-morning lull.Anabta08:30-09:30 – On our way back from Beit Iba we stop at Anabta. As usual, pedestrians and vehicles are queuing up on both directions. The soldier manning the exit side (going south) apologizes but explains to the drivers who show their permits that the permits are for a checkpoint whereas “This is an obstruction” (a new term), also: “No permits here, just procedures”. Today only cars from Shufa, Beit Lid and Saffarin are allowed to go south.Who cares, as long as ‘they’ are separated from ‘us’. Kadima!
