Morning
We arrived at the checkpoint at about 0645. On the way, near the first gas station, we encountered a jeep of border police. They were detaining Palestinians, and those who did not have permits and were hanging around told us there were there since 0500. We came to the wall and walked along it. There are few gaps, where people can hardly pass (kids can do it but it is very difficult for the elderly). At another point people could jump over the wall with difficulty. The college and school are virtually inaccessible. Some of the detainees were sent from the place where they were stopped up the road to the gas station near the wall. There were a few soldiers writing down the details of the detainees, and the one in charge, who was busily writing down all their details and filling endless forms (including a form in which they signed that they were not beaten!) was quite cooperative. We learned that the jeep took away the documents of the detainees who were sent to the wall. We called Safadi with the number of the jeep which soon reappeared and eventually the people were given back their documents and sent back. The whole thing took 3 hours. We heard again that people were beaten in Abu Dis. One of the people who was held up told us that two days ago a family member was beaten up in Abu Dis and is now in Hussein hospital in Bethlehem with a broken nose.
