Observers: Sagi

E-Ram checkpoint was almost empty, so we went directly to Qalandya. From the hill above Qalandya south, faraway figures could be seen at Tora Bora. Two soldiers were ambushing people that tried to bypass the checkpoint, sending many to wait at the northern checkpoint for their IDs to be checked. A gun shot was heard. There were some 35! detainees, about ten of them women. Some had been waiting for two hours. We called DCO, but got no answer. Moked were on line with us until all of the detainees at long last got their IDs back (but for one, who was allegedly wanted, and waited for the security service to pick him up). The people waiting for their IDs were sitting in the sun, for lack of any shade within eye sight. We made sure they at least get water. We asked the officer, Sagi, to give IDs back as fast as possible, and he started to give back the few that were already checked. One of the Palestinians who just got his ID back was caught again in Tora Bora within minutes. He said that he had no other way to get to his job.
