JUBARA, THURSDAY 11 MARCH 2004, PM Observers: Yardena T., Ruth H., Shoshana Z.color +red>12.15: We reached the School Gate at Jubara. Immediately after this the gate was opened. We learned that for the last two days the children have been bussed through the large checkpoint.The soldiers were cooperative and did not try to provoke any incidents.One of the soldiers spoke Arabic – but he was on a special project and not normally attached to the checkpoint – and that helped the general atmosphere. There are problems with bussing to Kafr Jbad, the buses are not allowed to travel there with school children.There were detainees (Palestinians suspected of having stayed illegally in Israel) who had been there for an hour.Two were Palestinians married to Israeli women from Taibeh and Tira. The women were waiting for them on the Israeli side, but left. The “illegals” were released and returned to Tulkarm and Qaliqilia.There was considerable movement of vehicles and pedestrians but things ran smoothly and passage through the checkpoint was relatively fast. Several settlers stopping their cars and abused us verbally, but we did not react……
