Qalandiya and Ar-Ram
Qalandiya, Mon. 25th September, p.m.Observers: Noa Y., Talia A-S., Judy O.Ar-Ram Traffic flowed smoothly, fom time to time also vehicles travelling in the direction of Ramallah were checked. QalandiyaThe road that runs along the wall has been blocked by another high wall (running from east to west) so one can only get to Qalandiya by a terrible convoluted unmade dirt track that winds its way through the town. There is a whole section of the wall where the road is blocked in both directions so that in both directions cars must take a long and winding way – and in the direction of Jerusalem by passing Ar-Ram altogether and emerging in Bet Hanina. We took a transit to Qalandiya. There the waiting room was deserted but a steady flow of pedestrians were passing through without problems.A man who worked for the U.N. in Ramallah and lives in Bethlehem, whose work permit is about to expire in two days, was unable to receive a magnetic card since he was told that he was prevented by the GSS. He asked our help, said that neither he nor anyone in his family had been involved in any security situations – had no idea why there should be a problem. We called Sylvia – then gave him appropriate phone numbers, told him what documents were necessary in order to clarify the situation. Vehicles were moving smoothly in the direction of Jerusalem.
