South Hebron, Friday, 11.6.04Observers: Ilana, V. and Gillie, P. Reporting: Gillie, P. We left Shoket J. at 8:20 and returned at 10:15.Shim’a – One Hammer and a few soldiers. They did not request papers (Teudot). Road 60 was open but only one local tractor and a tender were seen.Dura el Fawar – Traffic flowed freely. One soldier in the pillboxSheeps Crossing – No movement of army/ motors/pedestrians. We walked across the machsom and tried to speak with a young guy, but could not understand each other.Shiuch – Number of taxis were waiting. No indication for army presence. On our way back we spoke with several taxi-drivers. One of them complained that on Wednesday, at 7:30 he got a 500 NIS fine for not wearing a seat belt, even though he was just seating in the taxi, not driving. We did not ask him how many people were in the taxi (may be the high fine is for other people as well). Another taxi driver said that he did not hear about problems with lands in Yata, but he hardly gets there. We have both names and telephone numbers of these drivers. The talk was interesting and we enjoyed talking with them.On our way to Halhul Bridge we saw an ambulance driving through the vineyards, trying to find a way to the main road.Halhul Bridge: free movement of traffic and pedestrians. We did not see soldiers.Zif Junction was open only for pedestrians. No indication for army presence. Since there was almost no traffic, we think that on Fridays we need to go a bit later (around 12:00), if any.color=blue.

    • Zif Junction located on the crossroads that directs towards Road 356 to Yata. Yata is the district city of the southern Hebron Mountains. Usually, this junction is open to traffic. The nearby pillbox is unmanned. But the army and police are present occasionally, sometimes setting up a checkpoint and sometimes detaining residents from the big city. Often,  the Israeli policemen inspect vehicles and distribute driving reports to Palestinian vehicles. s
