| Afternoon

13:30  Az-Zawiya.  There has been a curfew on the village since Shabbat.  The entrance to the village beneath the bridge between Masha and Az-Zawiya has been blocked by dirt heaps.
Marda – The gate is closed.
Zeita Jamain – The gate is open after more than 2 years of closure.
Aqraba – Today, 4.12.25, they had permission to go out for olive harvesting.  However, a group of settlers in military attire (the Settler Army) arrived in the area and took the permissions from the harvesters, beat them and forced them to leave the area.

Yanun – The village is located to the NE of Aqraba.  The settlement of Itamar surrounds the villages of Yanun and Aqraba from almost every direction.  The lands of the village of Yanun  are divided between Areas C and B and they are only permitted to enter and shepherd their flocks in Area C and it is a certain disaster if they mistakenly enter Area B; immediately, the settlers attack them and harass them.  The soldiers and the settlers attacked the head of the local council, Salah Beni Jaber, threw him on the ground and beat him.  The local council is no longer functioning.  They have a representative in the municipal council of Aqraba.
Most of the residents of Yanun have left their homes and moved to Aqraba and only 6 families remain in the village.  There is a spring there and a bath called Nebi Yanun .  In the past Irit Segoli  z”l , Nurit and myself have visited there.  Now the settlers have taken over everything.
All the abandoned land is full of deer who wander around casually, nothing to stop them.

16:00 ‘Awarta – Huge traffic jam from the direction of Nablus.
16:30 We visited our friend, Doha, in order to get some olive oil which we can sell.  At the same time, her neighbor arrived, shaking with fear, and told us that a lot of soldiers had come up behind her house and were throwing smoke grenades and beating people who passed by.  This was very close to Doha’s house.  They arrested 3 youths and stood them against the wall with their arms up and faces to the wall.

    • A-Zawiya (village)

A Palestinian town of 7,500 people, whose name is derived from the word angle. Located 15 km west of Salfit and 24 km southeast of Qalqilya. About 3,500 people from the town live abroad and are not allowed to visit their families.

The people of A. Zawiya have 10,000 dunams, in addition to 5,000 dunams in the seam zone, some in an inaccessible enclave, near Rosh HaAyin. The army erects surprise checkpoints in the tunnel below Highway 5 and blocks the main and almost only exit from the village across the West Bank. The surprise checkpoint creates long traffic jams on the road leading north through many other villages to Qalqilya and the Eyal checkpoint and causes delays to workplaces.

They can not reach some of their agricultural lands, and for that they apply to the DCO / DCL / DCL / DCL in Qalqilya, through the Palestinian link in Salfit.  Only two from each family, the elderly, who cannot work their land anymore The rest are forced to sit at home. There are also no jobs for academics who graduate from universities and return home. Workers in Israel pass through the Eyal checkpoint. To get to work on time, they leave the house at 02:30 or 03:00 in the morning. .

In 2018, the Machsom Watch team met with Omar, who is in charge of archeology in the Salfit district. He wanted to show us a site of antiquities from the Roman period, which had not yet been excavated. Palestinians are not allowed to touch it because it is in Area C. Hundreds of ancient olive trees are planted there. They are legally struggling with a new demand for expropriation of over two thousand dunams.

    • Maqam Nabi Nun (or Nabi Yanon on maps)

The name Nabi Nun is attributed according to Islam to the Prophet Jonah. It is found in the Nabi Yanon Reserve on the lands of the village of Yanon near the town of Akbara. On one side of the not-very-large room, we saw a connection to a deep pit from which steam was coming out. It is possible that the pit reaches up to a hot water source located deep in the earth. Palestinian access to the site is limited due to harassment by members of the subsidiary outposts of the Itamar settlement.
