'Azzun 'Atma, Thu 15.7.10, Morning
Azun Atma
Translation: Suzanne O.
The children are already selling purple figs.
On Road 5, even before the turning to Azun Atma and the settlement Elkana, the police have put up a makeshift roadblock. A number of police vehicles hold up the traffic. A vehicle with Israeli number plates is parked on the shoulder of the road, the driver who looks 'eastern/oriental', stands outside his vehicle. The police found a heavy pole in his boot and he now has to explain its use.
6:20 a.m.
By the Azun Atma gate the sleeve for those queuing is quite full. There are two military policemen in the checkpoint but they seem to be working slowly.
The commander is not prepared to open a manual checkpoint.
However, the iron barrier is not locked and those returning to the village do not need an IDF escort to open it.
