Morning

Translation: Marganit W.

Judge: Lieutenant-Colonel Menahem Lieberman

Police investigator: Aamer Suleiman

Defense: Atty. Ma’amoun Hashim, Judd Kadmani

Two detaineesinfo-icon are brought in for remand extension.

Muatez Issa Abed Al-Fatah Hamidan – ID 860062282

He was arrested on 24.1.15 at Jib Checkpoint, early in the morning. He was wanted by the police, and the Shabak [GSS] had planned his arrest, the Investigator explained in reply to Atty. Hashim’s questions .

The Investigator requests a 15-day remand extension.

We learn that the security forces sought his arrest for a month. Other members of his family are in detention, all on suspicion of endangering security in the region.

Ma’amoun asks the Investigator: During the interrogation, was the detainee told that he was  suspected of possessing a “gift” he was supposed to put somewhere?

The investigator refers the defense to the secret file. “Gift, explosive charge?” he does not know. The detainee did not link himself to the events.

Q: Apart from the “gift” were there any other suspicions?

A: It’s in the secret file.

Q: Was he interrogated only in connection with the “gift”?

A: The secret file.

Q: Is he suspected of throwing rocks?

A: No.

Defense’ summation: We object to the long detention without court supervision.

The detainee was sought for interrogation and he cooperated with the investigators. He passed on the “gift” without knowing what it was. He was asked to do so.

The interrogators told him that it was his cousin who incriminated him. Soon there will be a confrontation between the two. Muatez is a student at the university and has no connection to the event.

Judge’s summation: The police requests additional 15 days to complete the investigation.

The detainee is accused of endangering security in the region.

Justice Lieberman has read the secret files and found that there were grounds for remand extension. However, the investigation team is not careful about supplying all the material relevant to the investigation (he mentions one glaring omission in the file). All the material should be presented to the court so the judge can make an informed decision based on evidence.

Decision: remand extension for 11 days.

Ashraf Vadiya Muhammad Saed – ID 854591237

Defence: Judd Kadmani

The charge: risk to security in the region

Request: 15 additional days of remand extension. The investigator adds that the details are in the secret file.

Saed was arrested on 25.1.15

Q: Is he suspected of several violations? He denies them.

A: He links himself to the events. It is in the secret file.

Q: He links himself to events of criminal nature?

A: Yes.

Defense Summation: We object to the long remand.

The attorney claims that the accused has cooperated. He asks for a significantly shorter remand.

Judge’s summation: The man was arrested yesterday. He links himself to the charges. The secret file contains incriminating material.

Remand extension for 11 days.
