Ti’assir, Be’kaot
Ti’assir, Be’kaot, Monday 25/7/05, AM Observers : Tali G., Yehudit H., (reporting) Ti’assir (Hamam)c.p, 6:30 – 7:30 AM When we arrived we wanted to cross to the other side of the checkpoint, but the soldiers (there where two of them and later a third one joined) stopped us from doing so claiming it’s illegal. When we tried to understand according to which law, we got a fierce response that those are the rules and they are meant to protect us.The checkpoint opened at 4:30 a.m and until 6 a.m only one car passed through, perhaps because of the closure (so we were told by one of the soldiers). When we arrived there were two cars waiting, from one of them a few people stepped off with big see-through bags consisting of food and clothing. The procedure was that everyone steps out of the car, shows their Identification, empty out their bags, and are let through after everything has been checked. The procedure was the same with the next 5 cars. Be’kaot c.p ( Hamra) 7:45 – 8:45 AM Six cars are waiting to cross, the people and the cars are let though quickly, first the Identification cards was checked and then the car. Women, children and elders were waiting outside the car quietly, and it seemed as though they are all well accustomed to the horrible routine.A soldier at the checkpoint told us that he’s certain that they are smuggling weapon under the plastic and different places but the cars were let through and no one was being detained.
