Morning

Hawwara, Tuesday 20.10.05 Sucot and Ramadan PMwatchers: Micki F. Nadim, Amira I. (reporting)No blockings were watched on the way to Hawwara, not in Jit junction, not in the turn to Yitzhar and not in other places. Due to the closureinfo-icon and movement restrictions, traffic is little and there are only few pedestrians. Traffic is flowing relatively fast.No trace of the news about the youth who carried ammunition and knives in his bag this morning. We did not know about it. The soldiers did not mention the event.Young man carrying a Jordanian passport is held for more than six hours. He fasts and did not drink the whole day. Eventually he was taken to an investigation and was released after another three hours.14:45 -two detained people. Little traffic from all directions. One of the detainee is held since 10 o'clock. He claims that he does not have any document. He is married to a Palestinian woman for 9 years, they have 4 children. He can not obtain a Palestinian document, every now and than he is detained for few hours and than set free. But this time, on a holiday, the diligent commander decided to take a special care of the matter and send him to an investigation. We called whoever we could, including Amira Hass. She assumed that he will be expelled to Jordan. She thinks we should be in touch with an attorney on a regular basis to take care of such cases.Despite all our efforts he was taken by two soldiers to be investigated at the regiment, we called him and found out that he was released at 19:15.A man is making his way home, few minutes away, and arrives after 9 hours. This happens on a Ramadan day.Is it possible to find out what is the legal status of Jordanian civilians who live in the west bank without any documentation? The second detained man was released after an hour.Generally the attitude of the soldiers was practical and efficient. The CP commander kept passing the vehicles out of Nablus. They communicated with us and explained their actions. There was no panic following the morning event (did it happen or not?)16:15 Beit Furiq -The drivers complain about early closing of the checkpoint. Closing time was changed to an earlier hour, 17:30We checked the matter with the commander and he confirmed the early closing. The reason is that because of Ramadan not many Palestinians are passing. If there is an urgent need, the patrol takes care of the humanitarian cases.17:15 -we returned. Few traffic on the roads. We did not meet any settlers, and as was said previously, we did not see any flying checkpoints on the way.
