Beit Iba
Beit Iba, Tuesday afternoon, 18.7.2006Observers; Racheli B. A. , Tal B. Horit H.P. Rina Z. Guests: Tali. Reporting. Rina Z.Natanya translating.15.50 7 trucks waiting in line about an hour.7 men and women detained in the jorra. The woman has been there 3 hours and the men an hour. The commander says that there is an alert considering a woman terrorist and therefore they are checking more carefully.16.10 2 detainees are freed. Four new ones are sent to the jorra. A woman is waiting for her son who has been detained and she does not understand why. She is waiting with him in the jorra.16.15 Another new detainee and there are now 12, 11 men and one woman. A humanitarian line is opened. There is no representative of the District Commissioner’s Office. No body checks.16.20 3 more detainees who had tried to stop the turnstile with their hands. We complain to the centre who say they will send a representative of the DCO. We again complain that ids are not being sent to the secret service for checking. The detention is to punish and not to check. The people are detained and freed according to the whim of the commander or one of his soldiers. A student is detained next to the factory, his id taken and told that it will be returned to him at the checkpoint. There they told him that they knew nothing about it and after an hour and a phone call to the centre it turned out that the id was at the checkpoint but because the student was not in the jorra they know nothing about it. 17.45 A rolling checkpoint on road 67 exiting Beit Iba. 50 cars waiting in line about an hour.17.50 Crossroads of Jit where 16 cars wait in line.
