Morning

A-Ram, 0630: All is quiet. Kids can
pass without showing birth certificates.

Qalandya: Many people southbound. Queue moves quietly and
unexceptional. The checkpoint commander S. is calm and soothing.
The screaming soldier now checks cars, so she has less contact with
the population. A couple of the others speak Arabic. They are a new
unit, and not suffused with hatred. Permit holders can pass, except
for those in the construction industry. Nablus and Jenin residents
are re routed through Surda. Schoolchildren, teachers, and special
cases pass on the side. There are no detaineesinfo-icon, and few people
without permits make any attempt to pass. Those who do are turned
back.
