Morning

06:20 - 09:00

06:20 Aanin Checkpoint

By the gate, at a small bonfire, a number of agricultural workers cluster after already passing from the village to the Seam Zone. Freezing cold, very slow transit. The soldiers, with mud coloured paint on their faces, are very meticulous, as usual, in making sure that we don’t cross the line of the gate to the checkpoint.
06:30 – they move all the waiting people between the two gatesinfo-icon, and the check takes place in front of our eyes. All those passing put their nylon bags on the ground while the soldiers take a long time poking around in them. Lot of children going through – there is a ten day school break, so we are told. From time to time the solkdiers decide that one of the waiting crowd has violated public order, and three soldiers escort him to the inside gate on the way back home to Aanin.
Transit is very slow.
08:00 – coming up to closing time, three women who came out of the village this morning return to Aanin without interference.

08:10 Shaked-Tura Checkpoint

Empty. Three children cross through the gate, quietly.

08:20 Reihan-Bartaa Checkpoint

Cold. The lower parking lot is empty. Few people coming and hastening to cross the gate into the terminal.
Four double cabin tenders loaded with vegetables are waiting to cross.
We meet M., took some food on invitation, had a cup of Walid’s coffee, and parted.
