Morning

In general – 20 minutes away from the 21st
century and Tel Aviv we enter the Middle ages. People cannot go from
one place to another without a permit, being checked or detained. At
Shaar Eliyahu at 6.30 cars wait to enter Israel. A border policeman
explains that in the line meant for Jews they are checking for
suspicious signs and maybe illegal workers. About 30 workers behind the
fence and make themselves up into groups of 5 who go towards the
soldiers to have their IDs checked. They have been there since 4.00 and
it is now 5.30.

At
Qalqiliya there are few cars. At 10.—10. 30 there are not many cars and
the soldiers check at their own slow pace though the checking is
continuous. Boys working at the parking lot say Israeli cars are not
allowed into Qalqiliya. Jit is open with Israeli flags flying. At
Anabta there is little movement. At Jubara the soldiers open for us
when we come and leave and know that we are from Machsomwatch.
