Beit Iba, Wed 4.2.09, Morning
7:15 Long line of cars and trucks. We count more than 10,
but it is hard to see. No detainees, not a lot of people.
Ahmed, the new DCO rep, comes over to greet us. He
asks for a list of phone numbers of those going on the shifts. We politely
refuse his request, but Navah gives him the numbers of those responsible for
the Nablus checkpoints.
7:25 A line of about 6 men waiting to go through the metal
detector at the exit from Nablus.
7:35 A line of 8 men and youths.
7:40 Someone who looks like the checkpoint commander makes
sure that we only stand in the corner designated to us. He warned me 3 times.
He says that they opened the checkpoint at 5 AM.
8:00 Two lanes for vehicles leaving Nablus are open, but
there is still a long line. I count 15 cars. Some of the cars pass through
without any inspection.
