The entrance to the parking lot was blocked by an army vehicle and behind it 7 lorries with Alte Sachen...........fridges, ovens, televisions, you name it. These are restored and sold cheaply. The army driver wanted to know why we were there but gave us no problems. He was evidently going to escort them to the places where they were to empty them out.
The man responsible, Nir, evidently a settler from the Gush whose office is in Etzion told us that these articles were taken to various dumps to be thrown out .He explained that the parts were burned down to expose the copper which is very expensive but this causes air pollution. He said that if it is a lorry with an Israeli license it is taken to Tiberias or Jaffe.
If it is a Palestinian vehicle to Barkan and ...business is evidently so good.....that they are opening another lot at Etzion. He would not tell us who is in charge. One wonders how the dumps deal with this so that it does not cause the same pollution. He told us to contact the civil administration.
. One of the Palestianians told us that there is an arrangement with a company . When the company brings a new fridge, etc. to a private home they have to take away the old one. This the man told us he collects and only takes appliances with plastic but this has not helped him and his goods were still confiscated.
One man told us that a large amount of money had been taken from his brother who was caught illegally in Israel and is now under arrest but he was not given a receipt to confirm this. His lawyer has gone to complain. They should live so long.
The waiting room was fairly full, not only with those who had been called to the GSS but also worried parents. For example the 15 year old boy who had put out a post on facebook which did not find favour in the eyes of the Shabak.
