Morning

Ayn al Shibli 04.11.2021I drove to the home of Mueen and Amal, accompanied by Shahar; we arrived at 6:30 in the morning. After meeting an older couple, Mueen’s closest neighbors, and then a short errand delivering Mueen’s mother-in-law and a child to their ride for the henna and wedding of Mueen’s sister in town, we set out with the herd around 7:00. We herded in what I know as the ‘usual’ pasture lands - west of the gravel road which leads to Mitzpe Leibo, the illegal outpost of Moshe. Mueen explained that he was buying almonds to feed the animals because there is no longer enough food available at pasture due to Moshe’s presence, and because hay is too expensive. He explained that the milk they produce when eating almonds is nearly the same as it is on their usual diet, but that the almonds make the animals thirstier. Mueen twice pointed out a military vehicle driving on the roads below us, but we did not experience any confrontation with or direct interference from anyone. We were back at the house by 9:30. We ate, drank and talked with Mueen, Amal, and their youngest son, then headed home.
