14.50. Turah-Shaked checkpoint.

Minimal activity at the checkpoint. Two women wait for transport to Um Reihan. A D.C.O. vehicle arrives and the official V. is interested in us.

16.15. Yabed-Dotan checkpoint.

On the way we are offered coffee by Abu Shadi at Izbet al-R’adiah the small community that is not connected to electricity. Then we climbed the unmanned pillbox between Barta’a checkpoint and Emricha to observe from there the checkpoint.

At Yabed checkpoint traffic streams inboth directions. Next to the checkpoint is car wreck with shattered windows. An Israeli refuse truck (on its way to deposit the refuse in the territories?) bypasses the checkpoint on a dirt road on the left so as not to zigzag. On the way back on the stretch between Yabed checkpoint and Emricha there is a long line of oncoming cars. Apparently in the time that we were there, a car capsized onto the field. It seemed empty. Much movement on the road

16.45. Barta’a – Reihan checkpoint.

Crowdedness, hooting cars, an absurd type of hilarity in the air. The new ‘building’ is now fully roofed. Sweet and coffee stalls are once again active in sheds. Jollity. Someone asks for Tami’s phone number, another asks where is Elija, They and we know who does what, “how it works,” but no one knows what the future holds.
