The Hill of the Fathers (Giv’at Ha-Avot) – a Jewish neighborhood in the heart of Hebron’s H2 sector

Between the Kapishe and the Ja’abri neighborhoods, populated by numerous Palestinians, Israeli colonists founded a neighborhood, Giv’at Ha-Avot. The Israeli government placed the Hebron police HQ in the midst of this neighborhood, the dwelling place of the main inciter, Member of Knesset Itamar Ben Gvir.

Since the neighborhood was founded, fenced in by barbed wire and army posts, Palestinians are not allowed to move freely from one neighborhood of theirs to the other. Only local residents are allowed through, and special permits when they have any kind of guests.

The gate operated by the soldier at the guard post was not functioning and therefore on Friday one could cross. I checked today – the gate is still out of order, but the soldiers have placed concrete cubes on the road and inspect every single vehicle.

It is apartheid, clear and simple.

    • According to Wye Plantation Accords (1997), Hebron is divided in two: H1 is under Palestinian Authority control, H2 is under Israeli control. In Hebron there are 170,000 Palestinian citizens, 60,000 of them in H2. Between the two areas are permanent checkpoints, manned at all hours, preventing Palestinian movement between them and controlling passage of permit holders such as teachers and schoolchildren. Some 800 Jews live in Avraham Avinu Quarter and Tel Rumeida, on Givat HaAvot and in the wholesale market.
