Update during Corona: Jordan Valley - food shortage
I spoke to two people from the northern shepherd communities in the Jordan Valley to hear what the situation was.
The main concern is the deterioration of their economic situation. Even in former days they lived on the edge, consuming basic things that allow them to survive. Milk and eggs which they themselves provide. They buy mostly basic food, first of all for their sheep and for themselves: rice, flour, sugar.
When the money runs out, they sell some sheep but now there is no demand for meat. Municipalities also suffer from the economic crisis.
There is a constant fear of the spread of the Corona epidemic. So far, no illness has been found in the area. But the big concern is whether the epidemic will reach the town of Tubas which is their only connection with the world – there the PA representatives sit, where they receive health services, shops, etc.
