Morning

                                                                                                                                Barta’a Checkpoint – 5:55 a.m

At the large checkpoint built here, only a small number of workers exit to their jobs in the seamline zone and inside Israel. At the terminal are 4 windows operating slowly. The kiosk placed inside the ‘sleeveinfo-icon’ is inactive, the workless kiosk keeper tells us that the business actually belongs to Shekem (the army’s refreshment system) and he is only a franchise holder.

Anin Checkpoint – 6:30 a.m.

The checkpoint is opened and Palestinians – about 80 men, a child and two women – exit to harvest olives. The inspection today takes place at the entrance to the wadi so we cannot see whether everyone gets through. Two of them ask us for a note to Sylvia whose name is already a household word…

Toura Checkpoint – 7:00 a.m.

The checkpoint is quiet, people cross it to work in both directions.
