Only a small number of workers exit to their jobs in the seamline zone and inside Israel
Barta’a Checkpoint – 5:55 a.m
At the large checkpoint built here, only a small number of workers exit to their jobs in the seamline zone and inside Israel. At the terminal are 4 windows operating slowly. The kiosk placed inside the ‘sleeve’ is inactive, the workless kiosk keeper tells us that the business actually belongs to Shekem (the army’s refreshment system) and he is only a franchise holder.
Anin Checkpoint – 6:30 a.m.
The checkpoint is opened and Palestinians – about 80 men, a child and two women – exit to harvest olives. The inspection today takes place at the entrance to the wadi so we cannot see whether everyone gets through. Two of them ask us for a note to Sylvia whose name is already a household word…
Toura Checkpoint – 7:00 a.m.
The checkpoint is quiet, people cross it to work in both directions.
