The checkpoint is improving every day, fences, more fences, a canopy, inspection windows, a long fenced corridor and other control mechanisms, all this leading us to the unsubstantiated assumption that soon this will be privatized.

שוטרי מג"ב מגיעים בזמן ופותחים את השער עבור שמונת האנשים העוברים בקביעות ועוד אדם אחד. האחרון מתבקש לרוקן את התרמיל שלו ולנער כל פריט לבוש. האישור שלו תקף ליום אחד, אך מתוכן התרמיל שלו עולה שהוא מתכוון להישאר יותר. התוצאה: הוא ישאיר את התרמיל ממזרח למחסום, בצד הגדה המערבית, והוא יחצה מערבה לאזור התפר בלי התרמיל.

A dense fog conceals A’anin village beyond the CP. A man (in the white shirt) is turned back. He said that, by mistake, he had brought last year’s permit. The soldiers called the DCO, at his request, and were told he didn’t have a valid permit. So he called his brother who brought the updated permit, and he was able to cross ??!!

The innovation of the fenced corridor has reached here as well. The upgrade of this structure of occupation is evidence of a constructive approach. The checkpoint looks to the future.

Last Monday a resident of Anin was not allowed to pass 15 yellow plastic containers because it is a commercial quantity. He had to hide them in bushes nearby. This morning he was allowed but he found only 3. Who’ll return the others to him? Who’ll cover the cost of the theft? Why it was forbidden on Monday and permitted on Thursday? What was the question?

The fence next to the checkpoint abuts the road, alongside it a single line of people (there’s no room for anything wider) that keeps getting longer as workers are dropped off by their employers. The line keeps getting longer, and as darkness begins to fall it numbers more than one hundred persons. Before we left we asked one of those at the end of the line to call us when he gets through the checkpoint. He’d arrived at the checkpoint at 16:30. We left at 16:45. He called at 18:00. All the workers want is to go home after a day work at the settlements and in Israel.

Three women with permits want to cross to visit someone who’s given birth, bringing plastic bags with clothes – gifts to the new born. They’re not permitted to take two of the bags through. The explanation: “Clothing isn’t permitted through this checkpoint.” The answer from the DCO: “We’ll handle it. You don’t have to call us again.” Bottom line – the gate closed, the bags were returned. Another explanation: “Merchandise isn’t permitted through this checkpoint.”
