We turned off route 356 to the village of Ad Deirat and from there to a place called Huwwara or “Sha’ab al Mr’ar.” To see the well which was filled with cement and the "buildings" that were demolished. One was demolished this morning. Another one nearby was demolished last week. This is Area C. People showed us their applications for permits. None were approved. Although it’s their land it’s too close to the Ma’on settlement.

On Saturday the Italians volunteers erected a tent on the hill for the children from Umm Tuba (so they could be sheltered when waiting for their military escort), but the army demolished it, claiming it is a military area.

Shots of joy were heard from the direction of Qalandiya refugee camp, celebrating 48 years to the foundation of the Fatah. When the celebrations were over youngsters came out of the camp and threw stones at the checkpoint compound. A group of soldiers marched towards the refugee camp. In order to cross the busy street the soldiers fired at the center of the road, and alarmed vehicles on both sides stopped.

"This is what's on the agenda now at Qalandiya", a Palestinian told us. For over two weeks the place has been burning and the situation at Qalandiya CP. seems to be on the verge of explosion.

Yesterday on Nov. 7.2012 the IDF demolished two houses in the village which is located in area C. Requests for permissions to build houses in area C are denied or ignored by the civil Administration. On top of the hill is the Ariel settlement.

Al Malih (route 5799) - a long line of waiting cars. At the roadside a kind of temporary camp is seen, dozens of tractors' platforms loaded with blankets, pots, clothes, etc. All the inhabitants of the village which received an order yesterday to leave their homes between 4 PM until 2:30 PM the next day. Thousands were forced to spend the freezing night out in the open (it gets extremely cold at night in this Jordan Valley area, as it does in desert climate), sleeping on platforms or the backs of trucks when all that protects them from the night cold is a miserable nylon sheet.

For 25 years a family from the village of Haris had saved to build a home. It took them three years to construct a building containing two apartments. After they’d received a demolition order they contacted an attorney’s office in Ramallah to appeal. While they waited for the court hearing that was supposed to take place that morning the bulldozers arrived without warning.

While approaching Hebron we saw a caravan: three Civil Administration vehicles, then a large tractor, then another, then three army jeeps. It seems to be, without any doubt, a demolition taskforce. They turned left onto the road leading to the Kiryat Arba industrial zone, located at the southeastern out skirts of the city. We followed them.

During the confrontation between the youngsters and the IDF a gas grenade fell and exploded inside an apartment of a family who lived right on the fire line, only their screaming gave indication to those who were standing outside of what had happened. The apartment was locked from the inside and those in it, women and children could not escape. It was then that the youngsters stopped battling the soldiers and started throwing stones at the windows of the house. Once the windows were broken white smoke came out and the entrance door was broken and medical crews rescued those entrapped. A young girl had to be carried out unconscious and placed inside an ambulance.

On Monday, darkness fell on Khabis Sawaftah’s family. While they were busy with their morning tasks, two bulldozers, 12 vehicles from the Civil Administration, Border Police and about 40 soldiers descended on them, ordering them out of their home. Khabis, his wife and their five children stood 20 meters away, the soldiers standing between them and the house, watching Civil Administration personnel dumping their belongings, sacks of lentils and rice tearing and spilling everywhere. Blankets and mattresses, schoolbooks and clothing. Then in a few minutes the home had been turned into a pile of stones, boards and plastic sheeting.

The parking lot in Kiryat Arba was filled with soldiers, police, jeeps and bulldozers. We decided to follow the convoy arriving on Road 60 near to the turnoff to Road 356. More jeeps, police, etc. were waiting. They had come to demolish several sheds which had been built for cattle belonging to two brothers from the Rajabi family of Hebron. The owners said that they had received warning that the army was coming to destroy their buildings. He also said that they had built on agricultural lands and I wanted to know if cows were not also agricultural in the broad sense of the word.

An empty deserted van probably used as a place of rest. The tractor pulverized it and then pushed it into the ditch. This van is considered a serious threat to the security of the State of Israel. People are building without permits since the IDF authorities ignore their request for permits.

Just think how much money it has cost the government to carry out this destruction. And what was interesting was that there was no violence. Unlike the violence we see when once in a blue moon the army goes out to an illegal settlement to destroy whatever is there.

On Monday Dec. 5.2012 at 07:00 fifty soldiers arrived at the village on jeeps and two tractors which immediately began the destruction work of two "houses". A warning had been given a week before, but on Monday morning the inhabitants were removed from their houses and were not given the chance of taking out the houses' contents. In one house lived a couple and seven children and in the other a couple and ten children. Furniture, clothes, toys, electrical appliances, textbooks etc. – turned into a rubbish heap. The army claim was that the houses were built too close to the road leading to Alfe Menashe.

Two teams working west of the section of the road between the settlements of Ro’i and Beqa’ot has two D9 bulldozers and soldiers protecting them. The process: a bulldozer digs and deepens the trench west of the earth mound, a second bulldozer puts the excavated earth on the earth mound, to make it higher.

Al Auja the spring which until ten years ago flowed abundantly and provided water via channels to the town of Al Auja, the surrounding localities and the Dead Sea (1/3 to each destination). Rusted dams, blocked channels, and the famous water slide are all ruined, because Israel erected three giant pumping stations nearby and another one higher up the hill, and diverted all the water to the settlements.
