300 people living in Nabi Samuel, all of them in 10 houses most of which have only one room. Today’s residents once lived in more comfortable houses at the top of the hill around the ancient mosque, but in 1971 they were evacuated by the Israeli Authorities who allowed them to occupy the shacks further down the hill that had been abandoned by Palestinians who fled during the 1967 War. The people of Nabi Samuel are not allowed to build or develop their village which is located on land that has been decreed a National Park. One of the residents showed us a copy of a decree issued in 2005 which prevents planting of trees on the land of the National Park. (MW report 11.03.2013)

We visited Mahmud who lives next to the checkpoint, whose car was confiscated by the blue police. He bought the car for parts but he has been using it to go to Yata to buy provisions and took his elderly mother to the doctor.

Al Auja the spring which until ten years ago flowed abundantly and provided water via channels to the town of Al Auja, the surrounding localities and the Dead Sea (1/3 to each destination). Rusted dams, blocked channels, and the famous water slide are all ruined, because Israel erected three giant pumping stations nearby and another one higher up the hill, and diverted all the water to the settlements.

The Kordoba school is located on a hill across "Hadassa House" a Jewish outpost in the middle of Hebron. The main entrance to the school was covered with barbed wires and the children and their teacher were forced to use another stairs (which they had to renovate). We have found today that the only entrance to the school is marked now as part of "Israel Trail".

An olive tree that had been robbed from its owner, uprooted from its place of origin and planted at the middle of a traffic roundabout, hadn't come to terms with its new relocation and started slowly to die. Orian, an artist, did it some real justice and wrapped the withering trunk and dry branches with a white shroud. Perhaps now the tree will rest in peace. Enraged settlers shouted from their car: "What are you doing?"- Alex Libac (from 'Ha'aretz') who was present and took “We're from the Ministry of Agriculture!...” – the settlers headed on satisfied and content. (MW report 10.07.2011pm)
