Abu-Dis, Beit Fagi Tuesday morning, 6 April 2004 Watchers: Michaela R., Yael L.-J. (reporting), Ora K., Channah A., Nira B.H., a guest Abu-Dis. It was quiet at the Gasoline station. We first drove in two cars to the hotel. The whole area seemed to be quiet. A few people, mostly women, were passing the plot behind the hotel and besides the site of the future parliament. The Pishpash gate too was quiet. When we arrived at 7:45 AM, there were 7 detainees waiting for their documents [to be returned to them]. 6 Border Policemen were checking people through, correctly and almost fast — that means in about half an hour. While we were observing, they were finishing the checking of four young men, who were all sent back. Some people with special permits were allowed to pass on to Jerusalem. Beit Fagi: The section of the [Separation] wall at the end of the road between the monasteries is now about 50 meters long. When we arrived, there was no Border Police on duty. We met two Palestinian women – a teacher and a nurse – on their way from Bethania to Jerusalem. They were using our conversation as an opportunity for spilling hatred and bitterness about their situation — in a way we have not experienced until now, even though some of us are longstanding Machsom watchers. One of the women told us that Israelis had killed her son and dragged his corpse through the street. (That might have been one of the reasons for her outburst of rage.)After a while, a jeep with two Border Policemen arrived. Both of these women reacted toward them very aggressively. The soldiers kept quiet, but stopped the women, who had no proper documents, and sent them back.
