Ezyon DCL, Rachel’s Passage, Monday 22.1.07Observers: Neta B-P, Elka B, Yael R, Mika G (reporting) 13:30- There was a rolling checkpoint before the entrance to the Tunnel road. A jeep was parked diagonally on the separation line and three BP soldiers inspected the traffic that was heading south. We didn’t see any detained cars or people. At the checkpoint after the Tunnel road: a long queue of cars heading north. The inspection was slow. The checkpoint at the entrance to Gush Ezyon: wasn’t manned. Ezyon DCL 13:45-A large number of cars what waiting outside. Dozens of people were crowded by the turnstiles. The toilets reeked. The Palestinians there told us that although they had been given numbers, the reception work started at 12:00. Two people were refused passage by the secret service, we gave them Sylvia’s number. A woman with an Israeli ID wanted one of her children be acknowledged as an Israeli (all the other children have an Israeli ID). We told her she had to go to the Ministry of Interior at Jerusalem, but she still tried entering the DCL. It’s possible that she didn’t tell us “the whole story”. A young man arrived, he wanted tell us that he received a note that his case had been closed. It’s probably one of the cases that Haya and Ada had handled. He came to say thank you and said he still had to pay 500 Shekels. 14:00- The line was hardly moving. The tension was rising. The DCL sent a soldier to inform the people waiting that they hope to give service to everyone waiting by 18:00.We made to phone calls to the Moked about a woman who needed to get to the hospital, which seemed to have speeded things up. Neta at the DCL agreed to help us and talked to the DCL. She said there had been some problems with the computers during the last couple of days and that’s why there was a delay. But now they were all working. 15:30- At the Entrance to East Efrat was a military jeep. We didn’t see any detainees. At the Tunnel checkpoint we saw 4 detained cars at the side road. We couldn’t stop to see what was going on. 15:45 Rahel’s passage-When we arrived, there weren’t many people and only one post was manned. After a few minutes people started to show up and the line became longer. We called superintendent Roni that sent two more soldiers. He came to speak to us as we asked for him on the phone.We asked if it is possible to hang the signs that are on the sidewalk, at the entrance to the terminal. Roni was very friendly and promised to take care of it, he also said he had requested that a shed be installed at the entrance. We asked why he didn’t send a soldier to man another post before we called- he didn’t really answer.
