| Morning

9:30 a.m. – 13:00 p.m.
Saturday – many vehicles in the Meitar border point, in the exit direction, from Israel to the occupied territories. Heavier traffic than usual towards Daharia. Many Palestinian vehicles on Road 60. Life is stronger than any political situation.

Road 317: In Meitarim, a military jeep [arks on a hill, observing the whole region. Another jeep parks in the entrance to the every growing Avigail unauthorized settlement, and another one at the Tawuani- Yata pass, on the Yata side. The big brother eye is stronger on Saturdays. Almost no traffic on this road, as most settlements (unauthorized} on this road, are orthodox.

Visit in the Hashem el Darage kindergarten:

Funds for teachers’ salary payments come from donations, raised by the Villages Group association. Payments are managed by Hamed from Hebron. In his last visit, the teachers discussed with Hamed the bad condition of the playground, which needs to be repaired and improved. Some games are dangerous, and there is not enough sand to protect the children. On the next visit, Fatima will try to bring an expert that will observe the status of the playground and estimate the cost of its renovation.

The meeting with Huda and Haula centered on dealing with every day events, like olive harvesting, folklore and road safety, in the kindergarten program. Zada stressed the importance of having a variety of subject corners in the classroom, like “shop”, “cooking”, “medical” corners, etc. They discussed materials needed for activating such corners. Zada also reviewed the monitoring lists used by teachers to monitor the children skills, and provided feedback.

The teachers asked for necessary stationery, materials and tools, needed to implement the planned activities. In addition, Huda asked to provide them with English language books, because English is a prerequisite in schools.

    • South Hebron Hills
South Hebron Hills is a large area in the West Bank's southern part.
Yatta is a major city in this area: right in the border zone between the fertile region of Hebron and its surroundings and the desert of the Hebron Hills. Yatta has about 64,000 inhabitants.
The surrounding villages are called Masafer Yatta (Yatta's daughter villages). Their inhabitants subsist on livestock and agriculture. Agriculture is possible only in small plots, especially near streams. Most of the area consists of rocky terraces.

Since the beginning of the 1980s, many settlements have been established on the agricultural land cultivated by the Palestinians in the South Hebron Hills region: Carmel, Maon, Susia, Masadot Yehuda, Othniel, and more. Since the settlements were established and Palestinians cultivation areas have been reduced; the residents of the South Hebron Hills have been suffering from harassment by the settlers. Attempts to evict and demolish houses have continued, along with withholding water and electricity. The military and police usually refrain from intervening in violent incidents between settlers and Palestinians do not enforce the law when it comes to the investigation of extensive violent Jewish settlers. The harassment in the South Hebron Hills includes attacking and attempting to burn residential tents, harassing dogs, harming herds, and preventing access to pastures.

There are several checkpoints in the South Hebron Hills, on Routes 317 and 60. In most of them, no military presence is apparent, but rather an array of pillboxes monitor the villages. Roadblocks are frequently set up according to the settlers and the army's needs. These are located at the Zif Junction, the Dura-al Fawwar crossing, and the Sheep Junction at the southern entrance to Hebron.
