An air of military suspense, fear, and desire for revenge fill the air.

On Road 60 between Meitar checkpoint and Hebron, there are positions of soldiers about every five kilometers with flags and soldiers with bare weapons and sandbags. Convoys of military vehicles on the road.

Hebron is deserted and decorated in Israeli holiday flags.

This year the days of Ramadan and the weekdays of Passover overlap and special arrangements have been made for the division of prayer times.

At the grocery store in Tel Rumeida, we are told about the killing of the terrorist at the entrance to the cave in the Patriarchate.

A 25-year-old woman from the H1 area neighborhood who was arguing with her husband arrived at the checkpoint from the side of the casbah with a small apple peeling knife in her hand. The soldiers killed her immedately with three shots to the chest.

As one of them said … everyone here gets all mad.

A holiday of freedom and a holiday of bondage at the same time and the heart is heavy.

    • According to Wye Plantation Accords (1997), Hebron is divided in two: H1 is under Palestinian Authority control, H2 is under Israeli control. In Hebron there are 170,000 Palestinian citizens, 60,000 of them in H2. Between the two areas are permanent checkpoints, manned at all hours, preventing Palestinian movement between them and controlling passage of permit holders such as teachers and schoolchildren. Some 800 Jews live in Avraham Avinu Quarter and Tel Rumeida, on Givat HaAvot and in the wholesale market.

      Checkpoints observed in H2:

      1. Bet Hameriva CP- manned with a pillbox
      2. Kapisha quarter CP (the northern side of Zion axis) - manned with a pillbox
      3. The 160 turn CP (the southern side of Zion axis) - manned with a pillbox
